"I'm a manly man and even I like this female popstar"

I VERY frequently see these these types of posts in female popstar subreddits, specifically in r/billieeilish, r/oliviarodrigo, and r/chappellroan. Does anybody else find this... off putting?

Perhaps I'm reading too much into it, but there's something that has really started to irk me about these types of posts given how frequently I see them. On one hand, it's great that more men are opening themselves up to things perceived as feminine. On the other hand, why do they feel the need to announce it?

If you're active in these spaces, you likely see it all the time: A self-proclaimed manly man rock enthusiast gives a popular female artist his seal of approval. The thing is though- I NEVER see the opposite occur. I never see women saying anything like "I listen to almost exclusively pop, but I love this manly man artist". And I think the reasoning for that is pretty simple: It is a GIVEN to respect art by men. And not only that, if you look up the top 20 spotify songs of all time, you will see that 16 out of those 20 songs are by male artists. This tells a pretty clear story that women listen to men more than men listen to women.

So when I see these posts, instead of thinking "Good for you!", I think, "What exactly is your subconscious intention when posting this?". Because it often feels like they're doing it to:

1. Validate their own masculinity to themselves by justifying why this feminine artist is the "exception" to the rule.
2. Establish the idea that the reason this particular female pop artist is good is BECAUSE she earned the approval of a manly man.

I want to close with saying I don't think the men posting these things are bad people, nor do I think there's any conscious negative intent at all. At the end of the day, these posts are harmless. I'm mainly making this post because I want to dissect these feelings with other women and determine if there's any truth behind my initial interpretations or if other women feel similarly.
