This is the answer. If you are an A list actor, you can pick and choose but up and coming? I'm taking whatever!
Some people love Christopher Walken take anything if they're free, others are very picky and can afford to pick guaranteed big hit roles such as Tom Hanks while others such as Eric Roberts seem to focus on B movies, straight to DVD/streaming roles that pay moderately well.
I'd pick roles that sound crap just because a very large amount of the films that have appeared in my life were either big hits but shit, good but had a crap premise on paper or the trailer made them seem bad when they weren't*. A lot of films that are awesome seen crap and a lot of films that sound like they will be awesome end up being shit.
So I'd aim for the films i think will be shit and make billions.
*One day i might elaborate on this point but i stopped watching trailers a long time ago lines like "you might die" followed by a cut to a clearly different scene taken from much later on with an actor saying "not today!" does not make me want to watch a film.

Forgive me if I come off as sanctimonious but I’d like to think I’d pick my movies based on who else is involved. There are studios and directors and other stars I’d refuse to work with for moral reasons. Like I appreciate how James Gunn allegedly vets potential casting choices by talking to past costars to make sure no one is an asshole on set. I wanna see more of that.
I’d choose roles based on the director and overall vibe I get from people I’d be working with.
It takes a lottttt to even be able to get to the point where you can pick & choose your roles. Most working actors don’t have that clout.

My ultimate dream would be to be as lauded as a Kate Winslet or a George Clooney, and then use my powers to be a guest judge on Drag Race and do a cameo on Bluey.
Years ago I was offered an opportunity to be talent in an adult film. The producer was someone I met at my barbershop. They paid by the scene. Women got pain more per scene. I opted out. I did not really need money.
Not an actor but as a musician I enjoy playing crappy dive bars and well paying corporate and wedding gigs equally... it's not about the pay for me, (even thought it's nice) it's about the craft.
I think I'd take a lead out of Daniel Radcliffe's book and aim to get one role thats so big I have enough income I never NEED to work again and just take roles I enjoy the sound of. Dudes got the life

Pick and choose the ones that bring me the most money.
If I was an actual professional actor, I would accept anything that paid for my next meal or month's rent or whatever. If I had the luxury of choosing, I would pick roles that I think it would be fun to see myself as in a movie. Pirate? Cool. I fight a robot in this one? Neat! Ooh, I get to be a caveman?
