But isnt silent hill 2 playing it safe or am I misunderstanding the title
He's talking about Silent Hill F. It is much different gameplay than the rest of the series.
They're talking about Silent Hill f.
You’re misunderstanding the title. SH2 wasn’t the only game announced at the time, just one of many. Having a “safe” option amidst a sea of newness isn’t a bad idea in the slightest.

Was SH2 really a safe bet though? SH2 was never a smash hit in terms of sales. It’s probably one of the most unforgivingly oppressive games I’ve ever played in terms of the tone and what it’s delivering. The series had basically been functionally dead for about 15ish years, so I think doing a full scale remake of a somewhat niche cult classic is kinda ballsy in their part. They could have easily just shat out a SH2 and 3 4k 60fps collection and people here, myself included would have bought it and been happy with it. Actually saying that, I really wish they would do that too!
It's *wild* to type this out but Im a big fan of how Konami's been handling their IP lately. Feels weird! like, they've literally showed no interest in games since Kojima left and they were all about cashing in with their IP being made into Pachinko machines then suddenly they're like, hey, let's just give our IP to other developers who loved the originals and don't intrude that much in the development and see what happens?} that's how we get two very different and solid (Townfall we dont know yet but sure looks great) Silent Hill games after a drought, a new 2D Castlevania by Motion Twin, etc Silent Hill 2 remake felt to me like the no brainer to fallback on why they try this out and I think it's working great for em
I'd like to add to your post by saying that those spin-offs are a nice way to bring new people into the franchise, especially when they're upfront about them only being loosely connected to the main story. Silent Hill f was my first foray into the franchise, and I loved it. And part of what allowed me to get into it was that I knew I didn't have to be familiar with the other games in order to enjoy it. Now I'm looking forward to Townfall, and I am interested in getting SH2 remake, although I've been a bit strapped for cash lately so I've been more selective with my purchases.
Wish they'd do something with the older Silent Hill games. A re-release on all platforms just like the new Master Collection stuff for MGS. I do remember reading back in the day that they lost the source code for the games so re-releasing wouldn't be that easy, but I still hope they find a way to do so...
I remember the shock when silent hill came to dbd. It was the first new silent hill stuff in a game in a very long time. A lot of people considered it impossible.
And by starting with Ascension this was a wild try to do.
Like how campaign evolved is us paying for 343’s unreal engine 5 lessons?
Testing the waters by putting a disclaimer on your commercials that you don't actually own the game
