How would you approach the discussion of whether an epic pass is a good idea for a person

Obviously if you live in a major snowboarding area and can go regularly it’s great value. But how do other people who live multiple hours away and it’s a trip rather than an outing to go snowboarding. I live 9 hours away from the Colorado area in Kansas City and I have a local hill that’s open 70 days maybe, but do you think there’s value in still getting a pass if you’re gonna only spend 4 days in a big mountain and a number of runs on the local

Just add up the widow price and see. This is something you should have thought about before the prices went up (like in May or something), but it's still likely to be cheaper. Also, you may go more if it's already paid for.

  Honestly just do the math, day tickets at big resorts are insane now like $200+ some places. 4 days at that price and you're already at $800, the pass probably costs less. Plus like you said you'll ride your local hill more too since it's already paid for, even if it's only open 70 days that's still something. I got a pass last season and ended up going way more than I planned because I felt like I had to get my money's worth. The drive sucks but you can make it work, leave Friday after work, ride saturday sunday, drive back. 9 hours is rough though not gonna lie

This is almost exactly what I do. Live in Chicago. Get the Epic LOCAL pass. Spend weekends at the tiny local Wilmot (also on the pass), take one week long trip to Colorado each year. Forget comparing against single day tickets. Compare against other recreational activities. I regularly get my cost for daily access down to around $30 or less per visit. How many recreational things can you do for a full 8 hour day in 2026 for $30 or less? Not many.

technically with $200-350 day passes you break even on Epic Local if you go 4 days, so that's at least one trip you take 2-3 PTO days and fly + lodging. Cost of flight, lodging, eating out offsets it but let's ignore that. Snow Creek is ~45 min away from KC so if you go there on the weekends even a few times then you're definitely getting your money's worth.

This is worded. Really weird. Anywho, I would take your total cost of the past divided by the amount of days that you think you're going to go. That'll tell you if you're going to use it or not. If it's substantially more than a day pass no.

I can get the Epic pass for $200. I absolutely hate my local Epic hill. I will only get it if I can use it out West and then I do the math.

Just do the math I live on the east coast but like 6hrs from Vt mountains. I also usually did 1 West Coast trip. When ingot an ikon/epic one year I said I'd need to make it to VT for 3 days of riding with a pre scheduled west coast trip to make it worth it. Unfortunately I only made it to VT 1 weekend and was slightly short (no big deal) however I never bought it again because the chance for me to actually get enough trips was relatively small with scheduling.
