There are a bunch of free downloads on Shape3D Warehouse that include the board layout (math) as well as a 3d mesh (graphics). I want to allow users to import of board shapes and meshes into my surfing game but I really want to be careful not to step on any legal landmines.
If someone downloads one of those files and imports it into the game, then shares a video or screenshots am I liable? Am I going to get copyright strikes? Or is this like car games that have mods where you can download a Ferrari you found online and the game maker isn't liable?
If I build an online board-shop in game and people upload and share board layouts, will I get cease and desist letters? If I just do the shapes by not visual designs, will I be ok?
TLDR: I think it would be good if board shapes and designs could be shared easily, but one lawsuit could kill this game so I'm trying to be careful.
