As an Englishman living in Wales who quite likes Wales, Welsh culture, and follows Welsh politics quite a lot, I really do feel like everyone over the border has completely mishandled the situation. Progressive politics in Wales fucking loves a Welsh flag. They put it pretty much everywhere. They are entirely comfortable with Welsh nationalism, and have proactively taken steps to promote a strong sense of civic Welsh nationalism. The answer isn't to just take down the flags. The answer is to just put them everywhere. Order a metric fuckton of them, and try and put as many English flags in as many places as you can. Flag shag to your hearts content. It is the easiest and most simple way of expressing a sense of collective national pride that costs basically nothing, and if there are a metric fuckton of flags everywhere, then some idiot putting it on a lamppost becomes meaningless and pointless. The only reason why any of this nonsense has any relevance and power is that there is an instinct within progressive circles in the lanyard class whose instinctive reaction is to demonise nationalism in order to portray themselves as better than everyone else, because they are terrible at politics and desperately want to lose so that they can spend five years blaming everything on the Tories rather than having any actual accountability.
Why would you not be allowed to fly your country’s flag? Which is the one you live in. How does this make any sense?

In my opinion this is an insane way to tackle this. Also, what’s wrong with flying the England flag? Are we not in England? I’m an Iranian who lives in England, and I fly my lion and sun flag, as well as own both the England and Union flag. Being proud of the country that you’re and displaying it with a symbol shouldn’t be seen as a negative?
You can fly your flag on your own property or with permission, you can't go attaching flags to everyone else's property, simple
You can still fly any flag you like, just not on random lampposts or near highways. If you have pride you'd fly the flag properly or at least on your own property.
Also, what’s wrong with flying the England flag? Are we not in England?

I'm not allowed to attach flags to your property; you're not allowed to attach them to mine; and neither of us are allowed to put them in a third party (the council's) property.
I've yet to have it explained how British people are being persecuted as they claim. They never can answer it.

Vote Reform to be poorer! Just look at the new reform councils. If you cannot grasp what is being said here, then pause. This is not about flags. It was never about flags. It is about the people holding them. The intent behind them. The way symbols are picked up sharpened and used to hit other people with. The way patriotism gets turned into a weapon and then pointed downward. If you are still arguing about bunting while missing the cruelty, the contempt then that is the point being made. If all you see is cloth and colour and not who is being targeted underneath it then you might be the problem. This shabby, yobbish, and offensive behaviour makes be ashamed of being British”.

cool so how many refugees you gonna house? 🧐 how much extra are you willing to pay on taxes to help support all these refugees cause I’m certainly not. throwing up flags everywhere yeah a bit shabby being told our flag is offensive yeah not on. you talk a lot about the people holding the flags and yeah a good number of them are arseholes but then there are the rest the ones who feel forgotten unheard who feel they are being displaced in there own nation of birth. the people who feel the ones in power care more about the people coming into the country than the ones who were born here.
If you love England so much why leave taxpayers to foot the bill for a load a badly painted roundabouts and sheets cable tied to lamp posts?
In my village there was a banner for slimming world cable tied to a road barrier that these people painted a big red cross on. They also did the mini roundabout and all the little boxes that line the junction. They aren't patriots, they're pathetic vandals.
Have you seen the flags in Epping, Debden and Loughton? They are all tattered, barely hanging on the last cable tie
The worst part is the hassle the workers have to deal with, the bloke hired by the council to remove the flags is just doing his job, he isnt the one to be abusing or attacking...
I live in Birmingham where this lamppost flagging started. There's so many ripped, faded and tatty flags just flapping miserably from the lampposts here.

I was in Malaysia just before Merdeka, and there were flags everywhere - but they were in good condition, had been put up properly and had clearly been done in such a way that the flag itself was being maintained. Last week I drove through Aldershot where a bunch of dirty, tattered Union Jacks had been tied haphazardly to a bunch of flag posts and left to rot. It just looked *crap*, and if you want to talk about respecting the flag and the country, I genuinely can’t imagine a worse way of doing it - particularly when comparing it to how the Malaysians did it.

Ox council do take the cleanliness of the city quite seriously.
The flags have been up and tattered for about a year and they arent in the pretty, touristy centre of town.
Thatchers Highways Act 1980 is very clear randomn people cannot trespass on Council property or hang shit off it. Whether that is highway signs, buildings, lamp posts or any other council street furniture There was absolutely no chance they wouldnt win the case Thatchers law is crystal clear
I live in the area and there are loads that have been put up both the England and Union flags. I think the ban is fair enough because in this instance it was for hateful reasons and it also was on public property where they shouldnt be attached to. Unfortunately it wont stop them though and at some point someone will get the idea in their heads to do it again and wont care if its illegal. I wish they had gone a step further though and banned people from attaching anything to them. The number of signs being put up on them advertising things is ridiculous at times.

Before people get up in arms about it, actually go visit there, they spammed it on like levery single lamppost near one of the major roundabouts. And like they're not small ticker tape flags either. Was willful and deliberate putting up so many there it was not some neutral celebration. If it was only one maybe I can understand a argument about. But doing it on every single high visibility lamppost is just bizarre
Lamp posts are for lamps & flag poles are for flags. In future if you wish to fly flags do it in your own garden/driveway.
