This piece was challenging. Every technique I’ve learned over the years had to used and done perfectly. Leather lined walnut saya pocket needed to be within .0015” tolerance of the thickness of the blade to have a good hold but easily taken out. Saya and brass inlays needed to be finished separately so keeping the inlay pocket clean of oils and finish was very difficult. Not being able to use any chemicals to clean glue for the brass glue up was also a pain. A lot of carefully planed and executed steps to make this work. Thanks for looking.

How is the edge with the mixed steel?
Is a mono steel with a forced patina in it. 80CRV2 at 63 ish HRC. Holds a very fine edge

How long did it take you to make? What type of wood?
California grown claro walnut. 25-30 hours. Something like that.

I agree and can confirm because at 53, I am the the oldest and most edgiest 14 yr old lord (lady) that ever lorded (ladied...?...haha), because I absolutely love the decor. 😜 Seriously though OP, every single part of this knife is absolutely steller craftsmanship. Wowzers, I audibly gasped when the blade was revealed. Soooo beautiful!

Not asking because I would want to buy it, but genuinely curious. How much do you think this is worth, with tools, time, and a decade of experience? Not market value. Screw that market value wouldn’t pay what it would be WORTH. Like this has gotta be $7k minimum in craftsmanship, right?

A work of art. How do you come up with the design? It's such a striking visual, not just the skull inlays, but the contrasts between the elements. Do you have a vision of what you want to achieve or do you let it grow or change as you make it?
So I’ve made the handles, saya and blades the same way for while but the saya inlay I wanted a Henry Moore shape with a more sinister graphic in the inlay so i went with skull and rose.
Beautiful work. How much time did you invest into making this particular piece?
Probably 25-30 hours of actual work but each side of the saya inlay was a 22 hour run time on a fiber laser
