Customer states: Stopped for gas, and the engine light started to flash. Scanned it and found a P0308. After going through the misfire diagnosis, we found the cylinder had a hard vacuum on the intake pull and discovered that the intake valve was barely opening.
After a teardown we discovered that the cylinder number 8, intake lifter roller had completely vanished and rudley remachined the camshaft. Oh, also, the manifolds both craked in half.

How in the fuck does Dodge/Stellantis fuck up something that was perfected 75+ years ago?!
Farm out every part to the lowest bid, cut every corner including QC, basically enshitify the process for the value of the shareholders.
I mean said logic could be applied to all big 3. Chevy has had shitty lifters for 20 years. Ford fucked em up on their pushrod revival engines. It's like everyone forgot how to harden rollers. And yes I know stellantis is a much higher rate, especially with the pentascrap.
Same way GM did. LS engines also have the same style of adjusting lifters to shut off cylinders, and they fail a bunch as well. Either the adjustable lifter freezes and starts making the lifter click(best case scenario) or the shitty needle bearings in the rollers fail and do some cam lobe adjustments. My guess is the people who make bearings for roller cams got together when EVs started popping up, saw the writing on the wall and decided to make as much money as they can on the way out buy removing QC from their lines. That’s just the tinfoil talking, I hope I’m wrong but my friend at work had a 30 year old Camaro that has a roller cam in it from brand new and it hasn’t failed yet.
Add complexity with cylinder deactivation but make sure to use the same material (or even cheaper ones) despite the added stress of said system.
On the plus side, all yea need is a sheet of plywood and you got yourself a half decent parts staging area that stays with the frame... and no fussing with them stubborn ass cherry pickers that demand an immaculate floor or otherwise refuse to move with any sense of calm.

No clue on the booktime but the cab up took a few hours. Granted, I did take my sweet time doing it. I would like to lift it, and install it back with no broken pieces.

It's before that, isn't it? Pretty sure the manifold / bolts have been a problem since at least the 4th Gen. Stelantis say they have an updated part, currently waiting to see when that fails too lol.

I'll bet the QC in the metallurgy of a soda can is far more stringent.
This has been an issue with the hemis since 2006? 2007? They don't make enough oil pressure at idle to not eat their own camshafts. The 3.6s do it too.
