ff14, do NOT play genshin
why my little boy WHY?
Hey guys!
I have been thinking about exploring both of these games for months now. But I never really got around to them, as I usually play either single player story driven games, or multiplayer games. I always took interest in both of these games, but unfortunately, I don't think that I would have the time to get into both of them right now. Especially since both games require a massive time sink., so I am torn between the two.
Are there anyone here who play/played both of these games regularly? What do you like about them? Which one do you think is worth to sink time into personally? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
ff14, do NOT play genshin
why my little boy WHY?
FFXIV by a mile, genshin is a chore to play
Genshin can be fun but it’s more of a side game, go with 14 especially because the free trial is a couple hundred hours
I think it depends on which combat you prefer honestly Genshin is action and has a big focus on combining elemental reactions and team synergies 14 is cooldown management and zone management alongside classic rpg roles Price is relevant too. 14 has an absurdly large free trial, and technically everything in Genshin is free, but it's a gacha game, so it will tempt you
FF14 Start as a trial and play it for awhile. After a couple months you'll know if you want to invest money to a paid account or not Note: after moving to a paid account if you stop paying you cannot go back to a trial limited version on the same account (or that's my understanding)
Genshin is basically single player with a LOT of grinding. Like a lot. And if you want specific rare characters you have to spend a lot of money it's highly unlikely to get them free to play. Genshin is fun but doesn't respect your time.
Tbf both of these games feel like jobs. But FFXIV is like as close to the perfect MMO you can possibly get.
I would never recommend gacha games. they are a plague. I've played FF14 off and on since it was released as A Relam Reborn. If you like MMOs with heavy PvE focus FF14 is quite good. The main story questline is solo focused but it's actually not that bad story wise. Gameplay wise it's pretty standard for an MMO, but you only need one character to play every job and do every crafting and gathering job. You can swap on the fly and change roles and stuff.
If you want more of a multiplayer experience I'd say FF14, but also I am biased against gacha games
If you really want to play something like genshin try DragonSword: Awakening. Similar gameplay loop but without gacha money sink
\+1 for dragonsword. It’s been a blast. I’ve always wanted to play Genshin but felt I was too far behind to catch up and not interested in any of the gacha stuff. DS:A has hit the mark for me.
I find Mihoyo games take up a ton of time doing menial things. That said, one is f2p and the other has a generous trial so why not just try them both out?
😂 alright, here. One is a completely free to Play gambling simulator and the other is a full fledged, subscription based mmorpg With a ludicrous amount of content for you to play. One is obscenely monetized the other requires a subscription per month and sells cosmetics and housing stuff in a completely out of game shop. I will always suggest the more fair and less predatory game, each and every time. FFXIV. Play the extended free trial and give it a shot. It’s LONG but it’s a lot of fun.
Ngl have not played Final fantasy 14 but im gonna be honest go with that regardlessly. When i played genshin it felt like a chore and the developers were just trying to waste my time as much as possible the level locks preventing you from progressing story the p2w combat system very repetitive dialogue i could go on and on but im telling you dont get genshin.
As someone who’s played both, pick neither. But if you had to play one, pick FF14.
Your enjoyment of genshin will be directly tied to how many characters you have. So...it may take a while for it to be fun.
ffxiv is great. insane value from the free trial, base game + the first 3 expansions. its a great mix between singleplayer content and multiplayer. tons of mutliplayer content and incredible singleplayer stories
U cant compare ff14 VS genshin its totally différent. U should give it a try to dragonsword awakening. Its a genshin impact like without gacha system & less gtinding (its b2p)
Genshin is F2P, try it out. You don't have to pay any money. People who spend a lot are people who get obsessed with waifus and "need" to have a certain character. You can play and get through all content without spending a dime. If you don't like it, then try FFXIV.
Don't play Genshin. Yes it's technically free, but it's also gacha. You have to put in a tremendous amount of effort for a CHANCE of getting a character/item you need if you don't want to spend money. The grind'll kill your enjoyment after a point and you'll either resort to quitting or spending way more money than the game is actually worth. You can use the FFXIV Free Trial to play for quite a long time without needing to drop any money. When you upgrade you just pay the cost of the game and then the set monthly sub price, the game has a cash shop but it's all cosmetics and optional services.
Genshin was originally made for mobile phones? Designed to waste time. Not fun IMO.
Genshin is a F2P gacha and FFXIV is free to play for the base game and the first three expansions, so just give them both a go and see what works for you tbh
I played both and ... it depends. FF14 is 300h to reach the end of the story, which is mandatory and the main quest is literally: go from A to B, read text, interact with a blue shiny for more text for 5h hours followed by a 20 min dungeon, rinse and repeat. A lot of people will also tell you that the base game story is slow and it gets better later, lots of jobs feel like ass before quite late too ( I know evercold, evolved jobs but that's not before january+). But there's a lot of other content to tackle and a very generous free trial (base game + 3 expansions, aka 80 lvl). When you catch up to content and have done everything you want, keep in mind the patch rate is slow: 2 a year, people wanting end game pve has like 5 fights a year, etc. Genshin as other said is a gacha, which comes with it's usual downside of having to pull characters and FOMO. It is mostly a solo game and the gameplay is akin to a breath of the wild: you explore the world, find chests, resolve puzzles. The story is good too, like ff14, some part are more of a miss too. lots of the lore isn't put in the "main" story but in side quests, descriptions, etc. and we are coming close to the end of the arc that began 6 years ago with the new region coming in 2 weeks. patch rate is 1 every 40 days, generally a zone every 2 patches and a region every year. The Gacha mechanic is thus: you earn currency by playing, opening chest, etc. you can pull on character banners and guarantee a 5 star every 90 pull, but there's a 50/50 between the banner character and a "permanent banner" character, if you lose to that permanent character, you are guaranteed to get the banner character next try, and it carry over to other banners, so 180 is always the max. If you play the game and do what it offers: you are guaranteed enough currency average to get one 5 star per patch/40 days (90) BUT it's sadly counting dailies and stuff. So yeah it depends what you want: both have similar flaws: story that are good but have huge high and low, gameplay that is pretty slow/boring early, chores to do whether it's daily/weekly but they are both free to try, so why not give it a go
FF14 no contest. Actual game made with love, as opposed to one that is built to nickle and dimes the player at every turn. Genshin may be 'free', but you'll be paying with your time in an experience that is inferior by design, so they can sell the solution.
If you want brainrot, get the latter
If I had to pick, FFXIV >>> But I feel like even in the gacha space, there are a lot better games than Genshin atp. Hell, even in the MHY (or Hoyoverse) space, I'd much rather play ZZZ than Genshin if I had to limit myself to one (and this is coming from someone who is pretty actively playing Genshin).
“Should I play this good game or flick myself in the nuts?” I exaggerate but really do not ever play a gacha. Especially when you could have a game for full actual free that is hundreds of hours and that’s *just* the single player story
Genshin is technically a single player "story driven" game tbh the story is just bad. Like its hundreds and hundreds of hours of unskippable cutscenes and they are all structured the same. You teleport somewhere or walk 50 yds, trigger another cutscene, repeat. The actual gameplay interactions in the story are very, very limited. Most of the story content is also designed to try to advertise and sell the various characters, which you cannot even get at a given time due it being a gacha game. Just avoid Genshin Impact tbh. It doesnt respect your time, if you want to play a game where you can explore and collect chests just play any other open world game. FFXIV is a completely different type of game, it is a classical MMO experience with an extremely long Final Fantasy story built into it. And when I say extremely long, i mean it. If you start playing this game it will take you literal months, maybe even half a year, to play through it all depending on your pace. It is hundreds of hours long. Mercifully you can skip through the cutscenes in FFXIV but its probably only worth doing that for the more boring side quests. The main story itself is a mixed bag, there are parts that are quite good and parts that are boring MMO filler. Being an MMMO FFXIV also offers social features and group content like dungeons and raids. That part of the game is actually quite enjoyable and you have a lot of options to customize your characters experience and playstyle. So its not really a recommend or a don't recommend for me on FFXIV, if you want a game to play for 6 months you can give it a try but you will never get caught up to the story in the amount of the time the free trial gives you unless you are unemployed and no life it. There are parts of the game that are genuinely fun and enjoyable but its really a game you have to dedicate the majority of your time to to get the most of the experience.
wait how long did ffxiv take you to actually get into bc the story starts off kinda slow
Genshin has it’s good sides like Lore, Open World and Music. My lord its music is fantastic, but I would definitely go for FFXIV!
XIV has arguably the best story in all of video gaming, can't recommend it enough. Though heads up, they're going to overhaul all of the jobs in the next expansion in January, so I might wait until then before jumping in.
What could you spend? There are important restrictions while you play the free trial of FF14 while everything is available on Genshin. It's more complicated than that because, yes, that helps to target a character useful for exploration AND meta in the first months. There are a lot of them.
Google AI can tell you the details with "what restrictions ff14 have on the free trial ?", let me just post a preview
Final Fantasy XIV Free Trial limits economic, social, and grouping features to prevent botting. Key restrictions include a 300,000 gil currency cap, no trading or Market Board access, and no party creation (though you can join parties via Duty Finder or invite)
Micro transactions are allowed while being on the free trial
F2P with occasional micro-transactions in one of the game or you don't mind being a sub on FF14? But you can skip some parts of the content on FF14 and call it a day.
This is only the begining and I still need to talk about the qualities and flaws of both games?
The gameplay and fights were way more exciting on FF14. I play Genshin mainly for the story, music and lore. Genshin gameplay is great if you don't care about skipping the hardest difficulty and play casually (with some challenge sometimes). But the game design is really diverse.
Ok... my advice.
Play Genshin Impact right now in Japanese. The game will allow you to do the new region on the 12th if you finish the first chapter (pretty fast). FF14 has a new expansion but in January (JP is also better but the ENG VA is better than Genshin in general).
That made me think that I should come back to FF14 but a new expansion of Genshin is coming. I'll see later.
If you have any question, feel free to ask.
I used to play FFXIV, it stopped being fun and I found I was paying for the subscription without playing. If you have dedicated friends to play with it's a lot better, until they drop off. :( I've been playing Genshin since 2021 and still going strong. You pay what you want (could be nothing!), it's fun, and respects my time more than the MMO ever did.
You’re kind of asking for the same thing in both. Both have a very extensive story that requires you to sit through 7 connected 60-hour stories. XIV is more fulfilling and the writing is miles better. Genshin’s is good, but not the best. I do recommend downloading Genshin rn because there will be an anniversary event very soon where you can select a 5-star and with the new region there’s a lot of pulls you can get from logging in. Just log in, get the pulls, play when you feel like. But commit to XIv. It’s better
