Hi everyone,
I'm running into a really frustrating issue and I'm running out of ideas.
I recently upgraded from a Behringer Xenyx 802S USB to a Behringer Xenyx X2222USB. The transition initially went perfectly and everything worked as expected, including recording into Ableton.
A few days later, without knowingly changing anything, Ableton suddenly stopped receiving any input from the mixer.
My setup
- Windows PC
- Ableton Live 12
- ASIO4ALL v2
- Behringer Xenyx X2222USB
- Synths (mainly a Behringer Poly D, Korg Minilogue, Modular)
- Mixer connected via USB to the PC
Current behaviour
Playback works perfectly:
- Windows audio (YouTube, Spotify, etc.) plays through the mixer.
- Ableton playback also comes through my speakers.
- USB connection is clearly working.
Recording does NOT work:
- Ableton receives no input at all.
- Audio track meters stay completely at zero.
- I get no signal whether using mono input 1, mono input 2 or stereo input 1/2.
Things I've already checked
- ASIO4ALL is selected in Ableton.
- Input Config is enabled (Mono 1, Mono 2, Stereo 1/2).
- Output works through the X2222USB.
- The mixer's Main Mix meters move correctly when playing the synth.
- The synth channel is routed to the Main Mix.
- USB Audio CODEC appears correctly in Windows.
- Reinstalled ASIO4ALL after changing mixers.
- Tried changing sample rates (44.1 kHz / 48 kHz).
- Tried MME/DirectX instead of ASIO4ALL (no change).
- Restarted Ableton and the PC multiple times.
ASIO4ALL
ASIO4ALL shows the mixer correctly:
TI PCM2902 USB CODEC
Out: 2x 48 kHz 16 Bit
In: 2x 48 kHz 16 Bit
So ASIO4ALL seems to detect both input and output.
Strange behaviour
If I unplug the USB cable from the mixer and plug it back in while Ableton is open, the armed track meter briefly jumps once, then immediately falls back to zero and never reacts again.
Also, ASIO4ALL sometimes shows the hourglass icon for the input/output for around a minute after changing settings before it disappears.
Windows test
In Windows' Recording Devices, USB Audio CODEC exists.
One confusing thing is that the recording level meter doesn't seem to react normally, but enabling Listen to this device lets me hear the mixer through Windows, which makes me think the USB input isn't completely dead.
What I'm wondering
Has anyone seen a situation where:
- playback over USB works perfectly,
- ASIO4ALL detects both input and output,
- but Ableton receives absolutely no input?
Could this be:
- an ASIO4ALL issue?
- a Windows USB audio issue?
- a hidden routing setting on the X2222USB?
- something else I'm overlooking?
I'd really appreciate any ideas because I've been troubleshooting this for hours and I'm completely stuck.
Thanks!
