I wonder if it isn’t because he still thinks you are one person, he doesn’t realise you aren’t a part of him?
My 4.5 month old is such a smiley little guy. He gives big gummy smiles and squeals to his dad, grandma, strangers, his toys etc but rarely smiles at me. I know it’s not a novelty issue because the caregiving is pretty much equal between me, his dad and his grandma (who’s currently living with us) at the moment. In the morning he’ll just stare at me blankly but as soon as dad/grandma come in to say good morning, he will light up for them.
Honestly this makes me so sad. I understand it’s a baby so of course I don’t hold it against him as he’s not doing anything on purpose but it makes me really upset that he doesn’t seem to feel the kind of joy with me that he feels with his dad and grandma.
I wonder if it isn’t because he still thinks you are one person, he doesn’t realise you aren’t a part of him?
What if you do funny faces or gobble his belly/toes? Do the other caregivers do things to make him smile, so maybe he’s anticipating it when he sees them?
