I'm currently planning a move abroad through a legal immigration route, and I've realized something that surprised me.
The visa process isn't actually what keeps me up at night anymore. I've done my research, I know which path I'm taking, and while there's always uncertainty, the legal side feels relatively straightforward.
What worries me is everything that comes after landing.
Will I find a job before my savings run out? What if it takes much longer than I expect? Will I be able to build a stable life before the financial pressure starts becoming overwhelming?
In my case, there's another layer to it. Going back home wouldn't really be a neutral backup plan. Because of mandatory military service rules in my country, returning after a certain point could leave me in a much worse situation than before I left. That makes the decision feel much more high stakes.
I'm curious whether anyone else felt the same before they moved.
Did you spend more time worrying about getting approved to move, or about whether you could actually make life work once you arrived?
Looking back now, was the part you feared the most actually the hardest part, or did reality turn out to be completely different?
I'd love to hear how you experienced that uncertainty before making the move.
