This is one of the intricately carved ceilings from a Hoysala-era temple in Karnataka, India. The entire ceiling was carved from stone, layer by layer, with no modern machinery. The camera doesn't really capture how much detail is packed into a single ceiling panel.

That is amazing and beautiful and proof of the wonder of what people can do.
I know it's a bit of a random thought, but Imagine if the architects of the Cologne Cathedral had brought over some stoneworkers from India back in the middle ages, that combination would have been beyond divine. The intricate details are already mindboggling as is, but the combination of gothic x indian artisanry definitely scratch an itch that i never realised needed to be scratched before.
