Maybe it's actually kind of clever and the caption is dumb. Pistons connect to a crankshaft, so getting signatures from multiple Pistons on a crankshaft sort of makes more sense than having Pistons sign a piston. It's like if you had people from a team called the Bullets sign a gun.
