I've seen a few complaints of this happening. Looks like the crimp at the top of the canister is weak, thus allowing it to spin when trying to remove it. Try using a pair of channel locks on the metal ring just atop the canister to loosen it.
I just dont know what is the cannister and what is connected to the bbq. I feel like this is right but I've been clamping the "outer" ring with no luck
