A romance developed in that situation has to be a bit novel
Out of everything you’ve ever watched in the media, what is your favourite romance story and why? I’m convinced that everyone has one, even if you think yourself stoic.
My favourite romance is Lady Hawk.

Anything that’s not Hallmark. I’ll describe the hallmark romances in one story that way you don’t have to waste your time. “I’m a married woman but my mother’s house needs taken care of after her death, it’s Christmas time ,oh wow there’s my long lost love from high school, illl have sex with him while my husband and child are at home and I’m here alone with this guy. Then wonder why I get a divorce. But I win in the end because it’s a happily ever after romance around Christmas time.” 🤣
🙄 my MIL watches those. That’s not romance that’s quickly-written shit on the level of harlequin novels.
The Wind Rises by Studio Ghibli Dunno why, but that movie had me bawling, and I'm a big, strong man!
Stranger than Fiction
When she finally types, “and then he died,” or whatever. Immediately lit a cigarette. That was definitely a story about ‘love’ without being a ‘romance’, though.
The Princess Bride. Still makes me teary.
The Princess Bride is a great one, strictly speaking about the romance. So many other things are great about that movie, good pick 🤩
I like the Victorian era ones with yearning like *Middlemarch*.
Stuff like Jane Austen’s? Or like, Jane Eyre? Those stories were written to be romances but always ended up with (if the reader is female at least) just getting majorly pissed off at the male protagonist’s cold demeanour. That was hot back then? 😝
Maybe Arrival, because I love the movie so much, and it's a love story + linguistics + math + aliens.
I remember that scene when she asked the alien, in that drawing-language, “what happened to the other one?” The alien replied, “other one is now death process,” and it displayed sadness in a way humans don’t but like you could still intuit.
The romance between Saint-14 and Osiris in the Destiny universe. Osiris literally broke time to get Saint back from the Vex, and Saint does everything he can to protect Osiris after the latter lost his Ghost, Sagira, to the Hive Queen Savathun.
👏 yes.
Dex & em
Duchess and Thomas O'Malley. He was doing his own thing, and didn't have to stay. He saw Duchess and thought she could be a fling but quickly realized she had 3 kids and couldn't just be a fling. He was shook for a minute and then instantly starting doting on those kids. He tried to keep them entertained with surprises and he saves them when they're in trouble more than once. Then he is convinced he can't be a pet cat and they part ways, but at the end he is in the home with them and they're all happy and loved
I’m basic but it’s Celeste and Jesse Forever for me. It’s such a mess of “right person, wrong time” and actually shows how weird and ugly breakups can be when you still love each other, not just the dramatic movie version.
