TITLE: Travelling to Shanghai as a couple. Tips?
CONTENT: Yep. I'm calling on all of us who have travelled China with a significant other. What made your trip special? What are some things you wish you did differently? Is there any secret sauce you can serve up?
Feel free to chime in however you like! 🤗
My situation: I am planning out a mini-trip to Shanghai for October with my partner. She is based in the north of China and has never visited the city before (neither have I). I am the and sole secret planner. My aim is to give her a memorable experience, which is completely hassle-free for her. To that end, I am covering the majority of the expenses.
Day 1: Train ride + Fancy restaurant + Shanghai Tower + Movie in the Hotel with a home-made meal Day 2: All-day: Disneyland Shanghai with the "couples pass" + Takeout in Hotel Day 3: Yu Garden + Random walk/freestyle + Fancy restaurant + The Bund (Sunset) Day 4: Late-morning Café + Late afternoon/Evening View + Departure
I have my payments setup with WeChat Pay and Alipay. All of my reservations (flight, accomodation, train, bookings) are booked and collected via Trip.com. I also use TripIt! to organise all of the time-sensitive reservations into a single timeline. I've pre-written a checklist she can use to easily pack her stuff. I also have purchased/made four gifts for her: one card/letter, one perfume she wanted, one bag of fancy toiletries/lady-like stuff, one gift card to go shopping for jewellery together (on a seperate date). I aim to give her one gift per day of the trip.
There's curiosity I'm having on how to tie trips together to make them feel coherent and purposeful. Thus, I thought about making the card a reveal kinda' thing, the idea being she reveals the itinerary each night, with a section to print-out some photos to fill out the page with our memories.
Anyway, I'm particularly interested in what romantic stuff you would/wouldn't on the micro-level (ordinary dating/love stuff), rather than simply just on the macro-level (trip-planning). 😅
Some context: we are long-distance; this is for our three-year anniversary.
(P.S.: I did not use AI in any stage of my post.)
