Omg it's not even for your store???
It takes some serious cojones to ask an employee at a brick-and-mortar optical store to walk you through ordering glasses online.
And then have the audacity to get salty and loud with me when I refuse.
This has happened multiple times.
One dude literally took out his phone, got on an eyewear website, and attempted to hand me his phone so I could order glasses for him.
The nerve!
Omg it's not even for your store???
Damn! I've gone to an optometrist with an office in a glasses store and then taken the paper prescription to get glasses elsewhere, but I'd never ask for the worker in the store portion for help. The lion, the witch, and the audacity of that... person.
It happens all the time. “You didn’t put the pd on my prescription” “because that’s specific to the glasses” “well how am I supposed to know it?” “The website you’re ordering from will help you.” A month later, they’re in complaining about the “bad prescription” you gave them and want a refund for their exam.
I'm sorry, we don't offer that service here.
Not that I’m even seriously suggesting it, but maybe this is something you should find a way to charge a lot of money for. If nothing else it’ll make people rethink asking.
No bud do it yourself you have the prescription.
Yeah, let me help you buy from the company that’s not paying me.
Next time order them.....but in the wrong style or color
Or literally anything, get ‘em fuckin monocles
Should have just said "Excuse me sir, this is an Arby's" and then left for the back room for a bit.
The audacity, to hat was so rude.
THese are the same people that will complain when the store closes and cannot understand why it closed.
You work customer service therefor you are meant to serve them. Bow before your master. Saying no is not an option.
well a business does reserve the right to refuse service it's amazing just how lazy people have gotten - I grew up in the 80s and I still do everything I need to do on my own. I don't ask others for help, I figure it out on my own. Yet watching young people expect others to do simple things for them blows my mind. Means their parents were lazy and didn't feel they needed to show their child how to survive in the real world. Shows how parents think they need to be their kids friend rather than their actual parent. I'm glad that the neighbors I have who have kids are raising their kids the right way by showing them how to do things and expecting them to learn it, rather than letting them sit on their ass while they pay someone else to do things for them we truly are headed towards society becoming the movie Idiocracy
ROTFLMAO hell no, we're way past that already.
Sir, this is a Wendy’s!
I work in a public library, and the number of people who have tried to make me make them a resume, do their taxes, take a safety course for their job requirement, etc. is wild.
My library offers classes in making resumes. It’s been very helpful for people getting back onto the work force.
When online job applications were new (and poorly designed), I had a lady come in to the library to apply for a job. She had never used a computer before, never used a mouse before and expected me to fill out the application for her. I was alone at my station and couldn't leave it unattended. Fortunately, the phone started to ring. . .
That service is available for $1000
That's bizarre
Go to Settings > Language and change the language to the most obscure language you can think of that doesn’t match the person making the demand. “Oh, sorry, I don’t understand what your phone says. Can you switch it to English?”
Wait is it the online version of your store (which is often a separate entity but I could understand the confusion) or a completely different business altogether (which would be crazy levels of entitlement)?
No. My store doesn't have an online shop.
You should have ordered the batwing/catseye glasses in hot pink for him. /s
charge them
the entitlement is off the charts, like how do they even think this is okay?
I work in optical too and had two people scream at me today for calling to confirm their appointments. And another one argue with me over pretest procedures. Like please stop hiring me to do something and then being a ranging bitch to me for the sin of doing the thing you hired me to do. I wish I could cancel their appointments when they do that.
Yeah. I have a former friend who does things like that. She will buy a sewing machine online and get mad that the local sewing machine shop only offers free classes for people who bought a machine from them. And mad that the local shop won’t even show her how to use it. And then she bought yarn and knitting needles online and took them to the local yarn shop and was mad that they wouldn’t teach her how to knit for free. She also buys stuff online like a book from amazon and then tries to return it to a local small bookstore after she finishes reading it. I don’t think she thinks she is scamming anyone. She just truly doesn’t understand that retailers are not free servants. She is a former friend for other reasons.
Don't worry. It's everyone else who's nuts. Not you.
“I don’t know this website, I don’t work for them.”
I've had multiple customers come in and try mattresses and the want me to shop for them online. Because they thought they could get it cheaper online. I would walk away from them and they would always get pissed at me. I told them ask the website they were on for all the info.
Record store clerk here. People will walk in off the street, hum some part of a melody, and ask us if we can identify it. "Yeah, that's it! Thanks, imma go get it on [Amazon/Apple/whatevs]!"
I did that once. I'd heard an unidentified song on the radio that had really caught me. Faux-sang a little snippet ("definitely, definitely, definitely") to the record store guy, and he was immediately, "oh yeah, that's Bjork, *Human Behavior*, and sold me the CD.
yup. Had a guy come in to order a weird part, complain about Home Depot, thank us for helping him, then leave to get the parts at HD because they were cheaper and now he knew what he needed.
Yes, sir, that will be $50!
I absolutely hate technology and QR codes. I am not going to do your GD job for you. CVS recently implemented some kind of screen in the pharmacy where you have to enter everything that they used to enter. I walked up said I’m not doing this and asked for my prescription. I am sick of being faced with some kind of screen before I can talk to a person. I will never go back to businesses that use this, and I will demand that a person provide customer service. Maybe when all the boomers are dead this will become the norm, until then, I will not do your job for you.
At target I do the same thing. When I get to that damn screen I look at the clerk give my name and tell her how many I’m picking up. When they try to explain screen I claim I’m technologically impaired. Being in my 60 I can get away with it. I use it for almost all self register screens.
I have to go to CVS for insurance purposes. I will not enter my information, that's why YOU work here. If you ignore me or say just put your information in, I will ask you what exactly is your job. I don't work here. They usually see me coming.
Missed your opportunity to order multiple pairs of the most expensive ugly Eyewear in super small frames. Dont forget to get all the lens coatings available.
Lazy fuckers should just go to Costco. Huge selection of frames, all they need is your prescription, and they will also suck the maximum out of your vision plan to make it as cheap as possible, and the final price isn't crazy.
I worked at Costco before & after their merger with Price Club. The drop-off in quality post merger was noticeable. The Price Club thinking was a customer who came back with complaints would have to make at least two extra visits to resolve the problem and while there would spend on average an extra $200+ each time. It was a loss leader for them. By design. If you have a complex Rx, don't expect them to have the options best for you.
you know what we don't see a lot of anymore? cat's eye shaped glasses in horrible colors. you could single handedly bring them back
I'm a Master Optician who thankfully retired before online "shops" became a big thing. Near the end, however, patients began coming in with their on-line purchases demanding fittings. Poorly chosen frames of the wrong size, lens choices made for reasons of cheapness, dubious quality, etc. They were informed that my services started at $50 and could go up depending on the complexity of the task. Invariably, a fit was thrown. The entitlement was profound.
My employer charges $20 for adjustments/repairs for glasses purchased elsewhere. The price goes up if they need parts -- screws, nosepads, restringing semi-rimless frames. And they don't take responsibility for the frame if it gets broken during an adjustment/repair.
I would not say anything except to ask the question.... . Where do you work/what do you do for a living? Then preceed to explain in terms that they would actually understand. That they are literally taking their money and spending it elsewhere while asking you to do it.
I used to work for the post office as a front-counter retail clerk (before cell phones were a big thing). People would ask me to phone other delivery services for price comparisons.
The customer is entitled to the written prescription. What they do with it is up to them. Most optometrists make a point of stating that their practice is not cojoined with the optical shop next door. When I get my written prescription, I tuck it into my purse and walk out the door.
They're entitled to their written script. They have no right to ask me to order glasses online for them and it's not my job to walk them through the process so they can do it themselves.
That guy really had some (optic) nerve, my gosh.
I see what you did there.
the entitlement is unreal, how do they even think that's okay
I’m guessing they’ve lost the option to ask their children and grandchildren as they’ve likely gone no contact with them
Customers call on the phone at my retail store, to have me order online for them. CALLER: I need to place an online order...I need..XYZ... ME: No, we don't do that in-store. CALLER: What? you don't have computers there for people to do online orders? ME: No, we do not. CALLER: So, you don't let customers do online ordering? ME: Yes, you can order items online but not inside the store. CALLER: Well you can do it for me, can't you? ME:I have told you three different times ma'am, we DO NOT do online ordering for customers in the store, you have to do it yourself, from your home or have a friend or family member help you. CALLER: I don't have a computer. ME: You can order from the App on your phone. CALLER: Is the manager there, I'm sure he can do it for me. ME: hangs up the phone, bangs head against the wall...
