The absolute nerve of someone to be so disrespectful at a funeral. I would never talkto that person again.
Not sure where else to post this, but I thought it needed to be shared out there.
Recently, a friend's husband passed away. He was a beloved character in town. I was shocked at how many people attended! They had to open up two overflow rooms outside the chapel, and people stood in the hallway.
I know this friend through the gym. A mutual acquaintance from the gym also attended the funeral. This entitled woman brought along a bag of her daughter's books and approached people after the service to SELL THEM THE BOOKS! Not only the people in attendance, but she approached FAMILY. Reports from more than a dozen people made their way back to the widow.
I wish I had known she was doing that while I was there. I just can't fathom the temerity that drives someone to try to hawk books at a funeral.
The absolute nerve of someone to be so disrespectful at a funeral. I would never talkto that person again.
See, this is where the deplorable trope fits and zero class.
Who does that?!?!?!?!? So tacky.
Wow, I thought the priest selling his books at my mom's funeral was bad.
That's not *bad,* it's appalling!!
But you were right
Thats criminal. I wouldve thrown hands
Tangent: the pastor at my grandfather's funeral service told everyone "they'd better straighten out or they'd all end up in hell like [my grandfather]." My 13-year-old self was...surprised.
That deserves to be called out.
That "friend" needs to be shunned by everyone. Might even make me want to cause a scene at the gym.
The last thing you want to do is buy books or anything from solicitors . So thoughtless and highly inappropriate
The first time I ever wanted to ban a book 👀
HOW are you not embarrassed?!!!
Charlotte, that you? 😂
Crass does not even start to describe what that woman did at the funeral. That person would be on my never invite or interact with ever list.
That's just tacky, the funeral home should of ushered her off to the side and taken care of it.
That would usually require the family member(s) in charge to ask the directors present to do that. With it being a church service, the priest/pastor could have also gotten involved and intercepted, since they have more leniency on the service at the church.
should've (should have)
Hey i like your use of the word temerity. And yeah, f that b.
Is that word kind of the same as tenacity? I've never heard that before. TIA
Only people with mental issues will do this
Ngl, you're a better person than I am. Would have been catching some mf hands if it had been me. Solictors are scummy people.
Bro I thought she was going to be selling empanadas or something like that (which is also bad) lol. People get hungry at funerals... But books?
Sounds like desperation. This might be the only way her family could put food on the table.
Nope. She’s comfortable and a landlord. Travels quite a bit and belongs to my gym.
Depends what the book was about. Coping with bereavement, or something relevant? /s
Romance novels
Wait until you find out about people who search for funerals so they can burgle the empty house.
Or shitty dirtbags that break into their deceased family members home to steal heirlooms while the rest of the family is at the funeral.
A well to do town that I used to live in would have a police officer in front of the family’s house when a funeral was going on.
That's why I go to my friends house and sit waiting for "My" new company to come over... The look on their face was so much fun when I stand up straight @6'6" and ask how I can help them 🙀👹☠️🤖
At a recent funeral, my boyfriend was part of a group that honored the fallen and was wearing a kilt. A friend of the widow’s approached him afterward and asked him if he was wearing anything under his kilt. He was horrified. I don’t think people realize how uncouth they are in these situations.
I mean… was he? (Kidding.) People are ridiculous.
Tell us about the book.
Romance, I believe. The pseudonym leads that way. She has at least 5 books on Amazon that I can see.
Wow. What a low-class move. I would have been hard-pressed to keep my mouth shut.
What's the book about?
Romance novels
My friends son was doing his Amway spiel at my dads memorial.
Holly sh..t!
This is a story in my husbands family as well.
Had a classmate pass out her business cards at a family member’s funeral. Was shocked and she was shocked that I was mad at her. Seriously?
Some people have 0 social awareness, I swear.
So disrespectful. So tacky. So low class.
My grandpa's younger brother did something similar to this, he was handing out his business cards to people at the funeral. I understand their relationship may have been a turbulent one for many years, but come on man, who does that shit? 😅
This is the absolute worst kind of entitlement!
The woman must have been desperate to make a buck, eh. It was in very bad taste to flog books off at a funeral.
What a disrespectful and disgraceful way to behave at such a solemn occasion. I would have frogmarched her out pretty pronto myself. Absolutely appalled.
Lefties sell books at funerals.
Why would you say that about left-handed people?!
Her politics are far from the left.
I think you’ve confused the left and right.
You sound like that lady that was removed from that flight for preaching to the passengers. She had a captive audience.

Chaz in Wedding Crashers would approve.
Wow. I thought I loved money too much, but this person really takes greed to a whole other level. Weird.
At my mother-in-law’s funeral in Kingston, the gravediggers tried to sell me weed. My nieces disabused them of that idea with a vehemence that probably still has them scared.
That is tacky af.
Incredibly inappropriate…A funeral is meant to be about honoring the person who passed away and giving their loved ones space to grieve, not creating a sales opportunity. Even if she genuinely believed in the books or was trying to support her daughter, there is a time and place for that, and immediately after a funeral. Especially approaching the widow and family, isn’t it. The only caveat is that we’re hearing this secondhand, so I’d avoid assuming malicious intent, but the behavior itself was still deeply disrespectful and lacking in basic empathy.
How disrespectful to use a funeral as a sales opportunity.
At one of my theater friend's funeral, one of the dumbass staff members had the nerve to promote the upcoming season during her remarks. 🤬🤬
Season of what? Like spring and summer or a sports season or ?? I'm lost
A friend’s brother had committed suicide and we all drove down to his funeral. The funeral home had something like flight attendants? Navy uniforms with brass name tags. As we were leaving, the attendance chased us out into the parking lot, making sure they gave us chocolate, milk, lollipops, tied with ribbon with the funeral home’s name and an advertisement for the candy company on the back. We were all frozen in the parking lot, speechless looking at the things until my friend said “I’ve been to a lot of funerals: Irish wakes Italian, just every kind. But I’ve never seen a funeral so tacky they have party favors!” That broke the tension! I kept the ribbon with the funeral home logo as a bookmark,
It could have had good intentions. The idea being that a rise in blood sugar is probably a good thing immediately after a shock?
Temerity just made the vocab, thanks babe😘
Very welcome!
Holy shit, that's tacky!
My dad recently died. At his visitation my mom is standing 2 feet from the coffin. Men were actually hitting on her. I thought I maybe I interpreted wrong, grief and visitations are rough. So on the car ride home I asked my husband and daughter about it. Yep men were actually hitting on my mom. She’s 75 years old and was married for 57 years. When/if she ever wants to date someone I don’t have any issues with it.
Old guys are like sharks. When my grandpa died my grandma was constantly complaining the old dudes at church wouldn't stop asking her out.
WOW! How absolutely TACKY! WHAT was she THINKING?
I'm kinda curious though ... what was the book?
A romance series

selling anything at someone’s funeral is already wildly inappropriate, but approaching the grieving family too?? she saw a packed service and somehow treated it like a networking opportunity for her daughter’s books. i’d be so embarrassed if i were the daughter and found out my mom was doing that.
I suppose it's no worse than the orthodox rabbi at my maternal step-grandmother's funeral who insisted he had to be driven from the funeral home to the cemetery in the nicest car among those in the procession (my mother's Mercedes).....but she could not drive it, because he would not travel in the same vehicle as a woman. (I went with my brother & did not hear about this until later) When we all got to the cemetery, the other shoe dropped. The rabbi insisted that he had to be paid before the graveside service. When my mom offered a check for his honorarium, he insisted that it had to be in CASH, or he'd just go home, She had to go to relatives and get whatever cash they had on them. When she got to me she asked me for whatever cash I had on me which was maybe $100. I asked what was going on, and she told me....and I almost blew a gasket. My offer was that he go into the hole first after I stabbed him, and he could play honor guard for my late grandmother. She insisted I not make a fuss and she'd pay me back the next day. I spent the rest of the funeral praying the rabbi would drop dead. When he came up to me after the service, I spit at his feet, turned my back, and left the cemetery before something really untoward happened.
My sisters MIL gave out flyers for her business at their wedding brunch 😂😂😂😂
Learned a new word today: temerity. Am I the only one who had to google it? I don’t think I’ve ever heard it before in my entire life
I love that word! Glad I could introduce you to it.
Wow. Did her brain fall out?
the audacity to sell books at a funeral is mind-blowing. some people really don't have any boundaries
Not as bad as a funeral or some of the other stories here…few years back I dated someone briefly that took every opportunity to try to sell her business and my own. Everywhere we went. Server st a restaurant? They got an introduction to her marketing business and the business I have. Random strangers at an event? Same. We broke up, twice. Right after the first break up, after a few months of dating, we met up at a venue that had a large outdoor space and live music to discuss some things. She supposedly got very emotional and was crying, excused herself to use the bathroom. She was gone a long time. So I went into the indoor part to look for her to make sure she was ok. There she was, smiling and networking, handing out business cards to a group of people she ran into inside. No more tears or being upset. I should have got in my car and left right there, stupid me have it another shot. Final straw was a “romantic” weekend in the city a month or so later where she took every opportunity to “network”. We were having breakfast at an outdoor restaurant. I went to use the bathroom and come out to the same thing, her giving a business presentation to random people there, including some guy who was obviously really into her. It was like my soul left my body and yelled at me, what are you doing bro!?
Had a second cousin try to sell me life insurance as we sat literal feet from my mother's open casket. Couldn't get away fast enough! It was very ick, to say the least.
This would fit in r/funeralshaming (on mobile and don’t feel like linking lol) But what a horrendous twat
Low class and bad judgment on her.
