Hello! I have recently had to move house and obviously need to take my rats with me. I want to know if anyone has any experience renting with rats, as I know the stigma can make it hard. I don't want to lie here. I need this apartment for school and can't risk being kicked out. One of my rats is a registered ESA, which may help us, but I really don't want our chances to be shot for getting an apartment. We have a time limit to find a place and I don't want to part with my boys :(.
I asked the manager of my apartment complex for their policy on “pocket pets” and listed as examples guinea pigs, hamsters, rats, gerbils, mice, and I was told that any of those are fine. Nobody has asked me what exactly is in the cage during inspections or maintenance. Other options to be honest but vague include “pet rodents” and “small mammals that live in cages.”
