I'm currently working in AI/ML with around 4–5 years of experience and am considering pursuing a master's degree in the US.
For those already in the US tech industry, how's the job market right now for mid-level AI/ML engineers? How difficult is it to land a job after graduation given the current hiring climate?
Also, how is visa situation for mid level are orgs more hesitant for people on OPT

What will a master's get you? Do Stanford SCPD part time rather than quitting. As someone who's been on a lot of hiring committees, a master's is about breaking into the field. If you already have a job in AI, it won't get you much credential wise, but you might learn something, hence the part time recommendation. A masters degree won't really get you anything career wise if you have 5 years of experience in AI. A PhD might though, but it is also not something that will have a high expected return. I would estimate the mean income difference from getting a PhD to be around $10k/yr, and it will take 7 years most likely, so it's not about ROI, it would be about being at the top of your field because it's what you're passionate about, it would not be a financial investment.
Short answer: market's fine if you've shipped models. Long answer: your real problem is the visa. OPT is a stopgap, H-1B is a lottery. Abu Dhabi processes Golden Visas in 5-10 business days for AI professionals.

AI in the US market is weird because it's in demand but it's also super saturated because everybody has heard it's the new hotness so they are all trying to get in on it.
