I think you’re safe on that. Microsoft has interests in keeping PC (Windows specifically) the home for PC gaming.

PC gamers (well, except for Steambox and other Linux users) have the XBox app installed as part of the default system package. It won't be an obstacle if you really want the game, but they won't get many of those impulse buys driven by sales unless they stir up a lot more interest.
I use both, do I buy anything on the xbox app? No, its just for gamepass but I do use it.

Sorry to pop your steam fanboy bubble, but chances are they'll end up making more by losing a few diehards who refuse to buy outside of steam just be avoiding the 30% cut steam takes 🤷♂️ If they make good games, they will still sell enough to balance the loss from not being on steam and earning a tiny bit more
They always try to have exclusives, but then they have a bad quarter and end up dumping them all on steam.
As they will probably go full digital also it's the only way for them to hope selling enough console. The moment I switch fully to PC is when I didn't need to have a console to play most of the game. Barely 10 years ago, a lot of AAA games weren't releasing on PC or maybe a year later, you could mostly get them on console. As I had already a PC to play all my sim games, I suddenly had no reason to buy a console.

Exactly this. Xbox games do not even have the star power to let people buy consoles, even their 360 harcore playerbase is not really returning. The ship is being steered by absolute morons currently.
They put the new Halo on PS5 and it barely made a dent. Seems like they think they'll get more out of maintaining brand identity than putting these games out to basically die anyway elsewhere.

Elder scrolls, fallout, fable, doom, wolfenstein, cod etc. As much as people would hate that these werent playable on PC, they would sell quite alot of consoles if they were exclusive.

Then I won't be playing. Game Pass for PC is extremely destructive to gaming. You get games at a cheaper price, yes, but game studios get screwed and fold and it devalues games overall.
If Xbox wants to grow their platform on PC, they need to do it. Minecraft does not need Steam, LoL does not need Steam, Fortnite does not need Steam, WoW does not need Steam. They also need to copy Steam where Steam is better and release games that people want to play. But they are not an 1 dev indie team that need Steam. If COD, Forza, Minecraft, Halo, TES and Fallout all turn back to their prime, which is incredly hard, they could pull it off. Nintendo staked their future in Breath of thr Wild being great enough that people would buy a Switch for it. Xbox needs to do the same, but actually release those games alongside the bet.
they need to buckle up and make all their ips exclusive instead of being wishy washy. or make them all multiplatform. imagine if cod, elder scrolls, etc was xbox exclusive!
😂 they probably got this idea from the thread where people were discussing ditching consoles and having the freedom to buy games from anywhere at a cheaper price and play on pc. What hasn’t occurred to them is, that peoples finances don’t magically expand to match their pricing. People have to spend on necessities first, and luxuries come later - so these kind of tactics will just result in people switching to indie games more. There is so much choice and quality, one can have fun playing something else.
Xbox launcher is absolute garbage I can’t even tell which games I own and which games I used to have access to but don’t anymore because I cancelled gamepass. Also I can’t even play all the games I do own on my PC.

Xbox does now own one of the few store fronts that saw success without releasing games on Steam. If they made Battlenet their go to destination for first party releases they’d probably be fine.

I've bought a few games on Xbox app, mainly if I want to use the play anywhere with my son's Xbox, 1 purchase gives us both the game. Steam is always my first choice however One issue is often with no steam release I forget games exist

People really hold such a double standard… it wasn’t too long ago people were telling Xbox that going multi platform would doom them for eternity and they need exclusivity. But now gamers are used to the luxury and will boycott if Xbox stops letting them do that.
