Merrell were my go-to, but their quality has obviously declined over the years, and now it seems Salomon’s are following suit.

I disagree about both Merrells and Salomons, as someone who works in the outdoor footwear industry

Yep, I've got some bootie style mid height trail runners with good support around the ankle which does the job for me. I couldn't get away with regular sneaker style but somewhere in between fits just right
Same. 20 years wearing hiking boots just because I thought I had to. Topos trail runners for all my hikes over the past 2 years and my feet are so much happier.
Boots are for snow, work, and the military only. There's zero reason to wear boots hiking.
I love my danner boots
I have fairly new Salomon’s and Merrell’s and they are fantastic quality! It sucks that people have had issues though. I wouldn’t go for the Danners shown in your pic here because it doesn’t seem like the lugs are great for the terrain in my area. I’d be super concerned about wearing these on loose scree. I prefer more aggressive lugs, personally.
I have the Jags which have similar lugs and they are really quite grippy.

That model does not come in size 14. A model that does come in size 14 is similarly sized to Nike (short). Not for me.

They are great looks boots! I would have gotten these, but I was given a $190 voucher for some keens, so I ended up getting some San Jose 6 inch aluminum toe brown leather work boots, which also look incredible
What there is no other GTX Top Tier Supplier than Hanwag and Meindl.
I've really enjoyed my Danners. They've held up great, trails and city.
More known for mountaineering boots, Scarpa has solid hiking boots.

I’ve been very happy with my pair from Zamberlan. I was looking for something firmer with more support and they’ve been fantastic. I don’t do a ton of miles but they’ve held up well over the last few years.
Danners are not longer 100% produced in America unless your buying their boots at the 350$+ price point. My last danners fell apart lost water proofing in one season. My husbands did the same. The Danners from over a decade ago are still in great condition.
As an Oregon resident I no longer buy Danner boots. The quality loss has been crazy. There are many superior companies in the $350+ range. Trail runners for hiking is the way.
I use adidas Terrex. The model they use for the Russian forces.
Zamberlan are better imho
There are many good boot manufacturers. The BEST boots are the ones that fit your feet, period.

I LOVE my Danners! I have 3 very different models based on where I’m going. Had them for years with no issues… I need higher boots for ankle support and they’re great for that!
I’ve never worn danners…my oboz are approximately 9 years old at this point and I still love them and am already sad about when future me will have to retire them

I love oboz for regular shoes but the boots never seemed to fit me nearly as well as the shoes.
I don't know about current Danners, but my boots have been going great for over a decade now. I keep them cleaned with saddle soap and occasionally with mink oil to keep them mosturized and waterproof. They've been everywhere from Appalachian mountain tops in the summer to Alaskan winters and they've held up great!
What model are they?
Altra trail runners lone peaks ftw. Cheaper, better grip, and lighter.
This right here. Just switched to them for hiking and I can’t believe how much better my feet feel throughout a hike and after. Wish these existed when I hiked the AT 25 years ago, instead of those boots that made my feet numb
Some of my hiking friends recently bought Danners, and they fell apart fairly quickly. Supply chain changes I imagine. I was a longtime Keen wearer, but reports are they start to come unglued almost right away now. After tons of research into which brands are currently holding up well, I bought some La Sportiva boots to replace my older Keens. The new boots are super light which took me some getting used to, but I hear it’s similar to Danner boots. The new boots have gone on two big trips with me now, and I’m EXTREMELY happy with them.
Ultimately it's what fits you best I think even over how long it may last. I've been in Inov 8 Roclite Mid Max and love the fit for me. I have a narrow heel and a slightly wider forefoot but not so wide that Altras work for me, and I find a lot of boots slip in the heel or compress in the wrong spots. This boot also feels more flexible than the Scarpas which had the best heel fit of any shoe I've tried. I've also recently tried the Asolo Space GV and I love that shoe.. it feels firm and sturdy, fits great, true to size, for when I want something that is rugged enough but feels like a trail runner without too much cushion.
I’ve been very pleased with my old school style Danners. Maybe that is their lane. If I buy another pair in the future then I suspect I’ll explore more European brands.
With these, you’ll be walking on the leather in rough terrain. This is what I’d put squarely in danner’s “fashion boot” category. Made for walking through your local Whole Foods.
I have that exact pair, and I would never wear them for hiking. They’re great with a pair of jeans on a dinner date though
