In the books, he and Faramir were the only survivors after they destroyed a bridge in eastern part of the city and swam through the Anduin river for safety. In the movie, it seems they drove the Mordor's forces out from the entire city? From the EE of Two Towers it seems like they defeated the host that invaded the city?
I guess I'm a little confused by this lol. Since we're all acknowledging we're not referencing book scenes, we *only* have the movies to go off of. In the extended editions, it does look as though the Gondorian army pushed the orcs out of Osgiliath and then Boromir got sent away to Rivendell.
In the book there were two other survivors as well.
Seems like Hollywood ran out of budget halfway through the siege.
In the movie I believe they do and we see the eastern half fall back into enemy hands in The Two Towers.
