In most metrics, Europe has already done more than the US, and certainly much, much more than the US over the last year. I think a more effective position may be to say the same comment about the US, they are lagging significantly.
As far as I know, the air defense that Europe produces is good at handling aircraft and drones, but not ballistic missiles. Even they rely on patriot for that.
