I took an involuntary 3 day med break this week (was disorganised about my prescription - surprising I know). It was bloody awful, I was lethargic the whole time, I couldn't even do basic self care tasks like brushing my teeth or getting dressed, destroyed my headphones by putting them through the washing machine and almost caused an actual house fire.
It made me realise that any tolerance of my symptoms or coping mechanisms I had built up over my lifetime were completely gone - and while I did struggle with my ADHD before treatment, I am non-functioning without it now.
This got me thinking about all those people who don't have consistent access to medication, or those who take a day a week or the weekend off without taking any. Have you found a way to make that work for you? How do you deal with the lethargy and mental effort it takes to just survive on those days? If you just take them off, as completely free rest days, do you find the restlessness unpleasant?
I realise I'm very lucky to have such great access to medication in my country and that my psych doesn't believe in taking days off of it. It clearly helps me lol. I am super interested to hear about the experiences of those who have different med routines, and how that works for you? How have you had to adapt? If it's an intentional weekly break, do you like this routine?
