I spent the last 2 years working on a reusable single serve energy gel, chew and powder packet

Been in the mountains running my whole life and the last decade seen the sport and hobby of trail running move towards hyper commercialism and single-use plastic waste in the form of energy gels, chews and powder packets.

These packets can be consumed as many as two to three times per hour, so a 4 hour marathon would create 12 packets of waste, destined for landfill.

I've done many 12 and 24+ hour races and the thousands of participants are using tens of thousands of these packets, just at one event.

And it doesn't stop there, they are made up of multiple layers of different plastics/foils stuck together.

I thought this was absolutely mad.

So I got to work a couple of years ago on the solution and created DirtBags after making hundreds of prototypes at home out of different bioplastic materials.

I've added some pics of DirtBags being used more than 20+ times, the same one, used day after day and i've personally used some prototypes as long as 11 months and then put them in my compost at the end of their life. Just that one DirtBag has stopped 20+ single-use and single serving energy gels/chews/powder packets going in to landfill.

Moving from a linear waste model to a circular life cycle.

This enabled me to move to bulk bought and home-made fuelling, i'm still getting the same fuels I was having before but at a fraction of the price, sometimes as much as 90% cheaper and i'm no longer creating multiple packets of waste when i'm running.

So now more people can have great adventures, fuel accordingly without it having to cost the earth, literally.

So let me get this straight. For the anti-consumption group you promote your product of a reusable bag to contain items that are already in single use containers? How is this not a bag for a bag situation? Like peeling an egg to wrap it in plastic for convienece? And how does this promote NOT buying shit? I hate being the one to bash on your 2 years of work but like why?

  So I posted before your description and im still on the fence. I understand your specific use would justify its existence. Sorry for the harsh take. On a side note. Could you not clean and reuse the old packets for the same purpose? Mabye get a bigger size of one and use one of those resealers they sell for chips and stuff?
