One thing that has been bothering me for a while now is how family members react to me cleaning my own house. I own my house and it is something good in my life and I want to take care of it. I clean it every week, which often takes most of the day because many people/pets live here and make messes. However, after cleaning, I am often told that I have done nothing all day, or that I'm just doing the basics that everyone has to do.
On the other hand, my side job is cleaning somebody else's house once a week. It takes only half a day, and I am paid well to do the job. Since the exchange of money is involved, my family reacts much differently. They think that it is good that I am out making some extra money in addition to my full time job.
But here's the thing. My house is actually bigger than the house I clean for my side job. While I make good money from my side job, if I was ever to hire a housekeeper for my own house, I would have to pay even more money to them than what I get from my side job, considering the bigger size of the house and the number of people/pets that live here. Probably about $200 a week. So every time I clean my house, I am actually doing $200 worth of work. But it is not respected, since I am not earning money. But everyone still expects my house to stay clean.
