Lost my new rod after trying to get back into fishing. Any similar stories?

So I wanted to get back into fishing after many years. Spent money on a cheap rod and after I casted, and waiting by the water, I set it down to eat some snacks and a fish grabbed it and pulled it in. Tried to jump it after it but it was too late. I know I should’ve been more locked in, and will do that from now on. Now I currently feel embarrassed, frustrated, and incompetent and now feel like this hobby is not for me. I would honestly like to hear any of your stories about trying and failed in fishing if that’s okay.

Happens, i was done for the day after a solid day fishing from a kayak in a lake and decided eh one more cast and behind my head the weight of my texas rig caught my brand new crappie rod and sent it flying 20 feet into the water, couldn’t get to it before it sank

  Man that stings but you got a story out of it at least My first time back I snapped the tip of my rod closing the car door before even got to the water. stood there in the parking lot like an idiot with a broken rod and a full cooler fish are sneaky little bastards they wait for you to look away. happens to everyone

Similar but in a positive way... was trolling and snagged into a $500 set up lol... it was covered in mussles and algae and had been in the lake for a while. A little oil and maintenance and brand new lol.

Go get another rod and fish where you lost yours. Hopefully you will catch the string and get the fish and rod back . It happens semi often . Good luck !

I was fishing with a two piece rod, didnt secure the pieces together all the way and when I cast the top half of my rod flew off into the water. It was still connected by the line so I started to pull it in but a fish bit the hook and started pulling away, which snapped the line. Lost the fish and the top half of my rod lol
