Getting my 8 year son off the PlayStation and Fortnite?

Okay so I know it’s summer and my son is taking a break from school, but literally ALL HE WANTS TO DO is play FORTNITE!! He is so enamored with all of the different Sprites you get through playing, he has quite the collection! When it’s time to do summer reading & math homework or practice piano or go to karate or really go ANYWHERE he is so obsessed with the Fortnite, he doesn’t want to do anything else and doesn’t want to stop playing (I’ll actually say just pause it and he says i cant pause!) He’s also talking to friends through the controller so I know this is part of why he likes it so much.

For context, he is a very creative kid who loves to draw and make things and he does very well in school, he never gets in trouble and his teachers say he is very helpful in class and stays on task with schoolwork.

I want him to limit Fortnite so he can do other things he enjoys, he is playing this thing for hours! It’s really becoming a problem. My mom says just take the PlayStation away.. i dont know if that’s the right way to go..I feel like hed be so upset and yeah he might get over it eventually but I’m basically asking the best way to handle this, if any parents have been through something similar and have any tips that would be great!

My kids wanted to play fortnight. I told them no. They asked why. I said because its made to make you forget about the other things you love. Then i listed all the other things they liked and when they said they would rather play fortnight, i told them "exactly. But unlike these other things, fortnight isnt good for you. So no." I did this about a week after i noticed they had started playing and had done basically nothing else. Then i deleted it off the playstation and blocked it on the parental control apps. Every now and then it comes up again like a bad addiction and i just tell them no again. My point is, its never to late to turn a bad decision around. Tell your kid no more fortnight. Delete it. Dont let him install it again. He'll throw a fit for a few days and it will come up over and over. Honestly and definitely explain the reasoning and tell him this is not a discussion or debate. This is the way things are now. Stand your ground. Its hard. But its better then the alternative.
