Do option 1. I’m South Indian and I really loved Nepal and SL. I’d highly recommend both places ✌️

Hey, I have 6 spare weeks and have decided I want to try South Asia, but still haven't decided which of the following options is better for that time frame.
I love history and nature, those two are my main interests. So temples and hikes is what I'm looking for. Also, of course, the food. Let me know your thoughts and opinions !

Go pakistan
South India and Sri Lanka are similar in terms of quality of life. Do either. Never been to nepal but what I hear they have steep tourist charge (per day flat fee etc) and shitty hygeine similar to north india. For a more relaxed, laid back time, try Himachal Pradesh or Kashmir or even Leh. Not that expensive but better overall aura
Those are just straight up lies about Nepal. No tourist charges, just a visa.
Southern India and Sri Lanka is moreover the same, you should rather go to Northern most India like J&K, Himachal Pradesh or Uttarakhand and all, and then you can directly go to Nepal from Uttarakhand
I agree with this!
Sri Lanka and South India are similar in terms of food but wildly different experiences - if you want to save on inbetween flights then combining the two might make sense Especially since both have wildly different histories and culture Just look if its in the rainy season
Six weeks from the extreme north of the continent to the extreme south, might not be a great idea unless you also have a love for airports and taxi mafias. Why not focus on a single province and do some serious hiking off the tourist trail?

id do all 6weeks in southern india. plenty of temples, nature and amazingfood withoutfeeling rushed
Since you’re a history and nature lover, do consider Ladakh as well. Then maybe you can do Ladakh + Nepal. Maybe even Kashmir with it.
South india is a nice choice, do take out your time to visit hampi and kochi specifically

You should travel to Bodh Gaya if you wanna see the place where Buddha gained englhtiment, during winter seasons Buddhist monks from all Buddhist majority come together in Bodh Gaya. There are many beautiful monasteries made by each country with a significant Buddhist history. Another place, it'd suggest is Mechuka and Ziro Valley in Arunachal Pradesh
Plugging my region here but if you come to South India, do pay a visit to Thiruvannamalai. Some beautiful temples and very unique landscapes for hiking. If you’re into spirituality there’s a bunch of ashrams that you can check out in the town as well.
Nepal + southern india.
For culture and hikes on a shoestring budget - North India / North East India should be your best bet. Most regular treks in Himachal, Uttarakhand, J&K, Sikkim, Arunachal can be done within 10-15k INR (transportation extra). A lot of them have other-worldly natural beauty, would be a complete detox (good ones will have no network, no electricity, no piped water, etc.). A lot are through small, local villages - where you can truly experience the culture and traditions. Some have exquisite temples and monasteries too.
