yea i agree with this guy! You already got a foothold. don't throw that away. I think it is fun to see musicians evolve.
I started making songs in 2020 and i ended up having a couple songs hit millions in 2022 and have been between 20k and 80k monthly. I did all that with not much in the way of promotion and the past couple years my songs arent getting much attention anymore. I definitely slacked on consistency and promotion over the past couple years. now im not sure what to do, the songs that blew me up were not great and somewhat different from what im making now. Im torn between deleting it all and restarting or just making a new account, as i have a lot of followers and some algorithm support on my account but the streams are also earning enough money to not want to throw away. If anyone else has been there and can give some advice id greatly appreciate it.

Well, I haven't been there exactly (my situation is more like 50k plays on a few tracks 10 years ago and now barely anything) but I want to say this: Any single time a person has a positive interaction with your art, revisits it, listens to it for pleasure, play is it for other people... that is a PRIVILEGE they are granting you. It just goes to show the lesson which is as old as time, that if we keep thinking success is a granted thing after a while, we can lose what we have. This happens to people every single day, in love, business, finances, not just music. It's what you do right now that matters. If you genuinely rediscover the pleasure and passion you had from before with making music, you might have a chance at getting some of that back. And the way you will know you truly rediscovered your love for music would be if you didn't care about the play count, money etc. In a roundabout way, if we put a lot of pressure on ourselves to 'have' something or to 'be' something, it's so difficult and it's easy to mess up. Again, very easy to say for me all of this because our situations aren't so comparable, but just my two cents, I hope you find this perspective a positive one.
Listen to inspiration, something that’s within your reach to recreate in your DAW of choice. That’s what gets me to it.
My friend did that, so I’ll share what I know about the risks. Both his original moniker lost popularity because he stopped interacting with it and the new one started from nothing bc he wasn’t huge, just a successful member of the lofi scene. Today, he’s relatively successful, though in a different medium. He doesn’t produce much anymore, but gets a lot of work djing and engineering. So the path is there, but it’s hard and you might need to branch into different skills. But he didn’t make the switch and learn to dj til covid, so it’s doable. Also should mentioned he’s in NYC, which radically helps the connections. So yeah, sorry for the ramble, but I know where you’re at. Keep in mind, you can always create monikers for one off projects. As long as you promote it on all ur pages, make sure everyone who fucks with you knows, they’ll still check it out and help get the ball rolling.
The songs you did years ago were different from what you’re doing now, you’re essentially delivering a different product and expecting the same response in return. I’m not saying you need to switch back and churn out the old style with songs you don’t like but I would recommend trying to figure out what clicked in those songs and how you can shape your music to take advantage of those lessons. I often find myself focusing on small components in the song and getting minute details just right when in reality 2% of people notice that, 30% love the filler riff I did in the background that took 20min and I left it.
Wait, have you created an economy or lifecycle around your 80k listeners?!
You had a formula, figure out what it is, have fun again

Plenty of bands change their sound over the years. Don’t delete it, just write what you wanna write.
A guy at my college did this and it did not work out. He produced some beats for a couple people. Got millions of views. Went to college and wanted to come out all legit and charging a lot of money and changed his name and started all over. The first time he got lucky. The second time he did not and now he works at a great voice over studio as a tracking engineer. But 10+ years and never got back into the producer role he originally set out to. I wouldn't change a thing and just return to whatever it was you were doing that had success. Getting success with those kinda numbers doesn't happen to everyone regardless of quality of work. With my dude from college he got those numbers cause something went viral and he was attached to it. He only had that luck once in his life. And prolly should've squeezed it a bit harder rather than abandon the whole persona and start over.
