This is an interactive explorer of David Nutt and colleagues 2010 Multi Criteria Decision analysis in which they ranked 20 common drugs for harmfulness in the UK. Harms to the user are considered on an individual scale, while harms to society are estimated at a population level.

No fentanyl? Or it’s considered as heroin?
My understanding is that fentanyl was not yet common in the UK in 2010 when this study came out. There are more recent studies (including one in Canada in 2026) that include considerations of fentanyl, but I haven't been able to get my hands on their data yet.

I was actually very disappointed, I don’t remember the specific a now but there was a lot of cherry picking and half analysis to prove the hypothesis he’d already decided on. It made me really reconsider the validity of his work and I was previously a fan.
