Genuinely asking because im so tired of seeing people online claim they got conversational in 90 days or whatever and then when you dig into it theyre like 'well i also lived in spain for a year so'
I don’t know if that’s an app or program or something, but 90 days is not realistic. Think 1,000 - 3,000 hours of mixed input and classes and self study and various forms of immersion and practice. If you can squeeze that into 90 days you might have a shot

It’s impossible to learn a language to fluency in 90 days unless you spend literally every waking hour of those 90 days bombarding your brain with input. Even then, you probably would not achieve true *fluency*. Learning a language is a several year long process. For Spanish, you need approximately 1,500 hours of input to achieve fluency. If you do 3 hours per day, you can achieve that in a year and a half. Does that put into perspective for you?
Depends on the other languages you know. I was really good in French and did b2 exams in university after 2 months. Because it's super similar..

The people who say they're "conversational in 90 days" likely had a few years of high school Spanish that "didn't count" because high school Spanish usually doesn't focus on conversation. They already know Spanish, just in the stills of grammar and vocabulary. They just had a long "silent period" of grammar (input is a whole 'nother issue). But, I mean, sure, if you were already at an intermediate level and had 3 hours of tutoring per day, that's 270 hours of speaking. Not too bad. Most people that get tutors are usually happy with 100-300 hours of speaking practice. If you really wanted to learn fast, then spend $5,000 to $10,000 or however much it is on a language immersion program (one of those 3-4 months, 25 hour-per-week-100%-in-Spanish courses).
No. Any time you hear "90 days" or any other specific time period, get out your salt shaker and apply liberally because the truth is that people learn at different rates no matter what. Anyone who makes a claim about achieving mastery/fluency in a particular time period is either exaggerating, lying, or using hyperbole. Look for effectiveness in learning, not supposed efficiency.

yeah i get you, those claims can be so frustrating. honestly, what’s helped me the most is actually talking to people, like on speakduo or even local meetups. it’s not instant, but it feels way more real than doing apps alone
It is impossible to learn a language in 90 days, but you can absolutely get passably conversational Spanish in 90 days, assuming you get a few hours of comprehensible input every day in addition to daily opportunities to practice speaking what you are learning with someone who is fluent. If you treat it like a part time job, it’s possible.
I've probably had like 200 hours of instruction so far and I can hold a conversation over text LOL. Yeah, 90 days is not going to cut it

Spanish is a 1000-hour-language. You have to have continual repitition to build those brain circuits up. There's no shortcuts. Get to as far as you can into the 1000 hours and then go spend time abroad on a mission, volunteering, au pair or just a regular job to get conversational.
Anyone claiming to be fluent in a language after 90 days is lying out of their ass. Even if you spent every 24 hours of each of the 90 days studying Spanish it would be impossible.
That is the only way possible immerse yourself in it. Watch everything in Spanish on tv, listen to Spanish music, try and do a meetup for Spanish speaking practice. Apps don’t get you there even in a year

You need to immerse completely. People who learn a language quick probably already speak a related language, or live in the place.

In 90 days of concentrated effort, you CAN become quite good in a very narrow talking domain. Talking about yourself, where you come from, why you're learning Spanish, all the things good normally say in the first 5 minutes. You can talk and ask questions competently. I don’t understand why people think this is even possible. Imagine learning a musical instrument in 90 days. Think about it: if you practiced every damn minute of the day you really think you’re going to be proficient at the end compared to somebody who’s played for years? just the sheer exhaustion that would take over in either one of these scenarios, learning Spanish or musical instrument as comparison, would basically mean you would have tons of holes in you’re learning.
Seems most people here are not understanding the question, this isn't about being fluent its about being conversational. You won't be great but you can start to hold basic conversations fairly easily in 3 months if you come from a language like English because there are a lot of common words that are not identical but very very similar so you can learn a ton of vocab quick. The best way to learn conversational topics is to just play out conversations you have at the moment with people, translate both sides of the conversation and then add more and more each day and drill daily with flashcards/anki. By 90 days you will be able to have the basic conversations you have now and understand most of what is being said since basic conversations are kinda predictable.

Conversational as in holding a basic conversation on limited topics can work in three months of intense classes, but in the sense of freely expressing yourself it would be almost impossible.
