Been wanting to rant about this for a long time.
I have a lot of cousins, friends, and family members, and we all hang out pretty often on weekends. A few of them own PS5s and have been gaming casually for the last 3–4 years.
But gaming has been a huge part of my life for much longer than that.
I finished the original Resident Evil 4 nearly 10 times when I was around 15, and that’s what truly started my gaming journey. I’ve logged 2000+ hours in Battlefield 1 alone, and probably close to that across BF4, BF5, and other Battlefield titles. Modern Warfare 2019 and Black Ops Cold War? Easily 1000+ hours each.
I was deeply into MMO/FPS games for years, but around 2022, I felt “retired” from multiplayer gaming and wanted something different. That’s when I picked up Elden Ring.
Since then, gaming became a completely different experience for me.
500+ hours in Elden Ring, 200+ in Bloodborne, finished almost every Assassin’s Creed game, Cyberpunk, Tom Clancy titles, Like a Dragon, and recently Blasphemous — which I absolutely loved and am still doing NG+ runs on.
The reason I’m saying all this is because some of the people I hang out with constantly make comments like:
“PS5 is king, Xbox is trash.” “GTA V is the greatest game ever made.” “You’re not a real gamer if you don’t own Spider-Man.” “Why do you only have one controller?” “Why does Blasphemous look so outdated?” “Sekiro is too punishing. Games should just be fun.” “If you’re not hyped for GTA 6 day one, you’re not a gamer.”
I usually just smile and move on, but honestly, those comments get under my skin sometimes.
Gaming is such a massive world. One person enjoys cinematic open worlds. Another enjoys hardcore soulslikes. Someone else enjoys retro pixel art games, strategy games, MMOs, racing sims, platformers, fighting games, or competitive shooters.
None of that makes anyone “more” or “less” of a gamer.
I have the same amount of respect for the girl who beat Elden Ring blindfolded using her legs as I do for someone setting world records in Tetris. Passion is passion.
At the end of the day, we’re all part of the same gaming community. Don’t disrespect someone else’s taste just because they’re excited about something different from you.

Sorry, I'm not quite sure why you're lecturing us about this. This is something you should bringing up with your friends, not with a bunch of people who have never said these things to you.
Yeah and also I couldnt honestly care what someone thinks of my preference, if the game is fun then its fulfilled its purpose in my eyes.

I agree with the sentiment but I’d also like to add that people should be able to voice that something isn’t their thing in a general sense without killing the vibe. Way too often people attach their interests to their identity in an incredibly serious way to the point where if you’re not a diehard fan, the conversation immediately turns cold and weird.
